Parkview’s High School Visits Ground Zero

Recently, a group of students led by Tim Hagan and Mike Linden visited Washington, IL. They helped with the cleanup after an EF4 tornado devastated this community about two weeks ago. The group joined with others to total 110 people who met at Bayview Baptist Church where they received instructions on their duties for the day. They eventually ended up clearing debris from a local golf course. The day was extremely cold and windy, but the workers were able to warm up with hot chocolate / coffee and warm food provided by the Red Cross. The owner of the golf course thanked the workers at the end of the day with tears in his eyes. Although the boys enjoyed driving golf carts to assist in the clean up, they agreed it was sad seeing the total devastation to homes. Finding parts of computers, Xboxes, window frames, tile flooring, battered cars, etc. quickly tied this day back to the people affected.

The PCA group serving in Washington, IL consisted of freshmen Jared Hagan, Jack Swenson, and Austin West along with junior Jarred Still and senior Aaron West. John Pilmer, assistant varsity basketball coach, also joined the group. They considered it a privilege to be hands serving God’s glory (from Parkview’s Vision Statement) in a very practical way.
