Trap Shooting Recap
Parkview Christian Academy’s trapshooting team recently completed their inaugural season. 19 athletes competed in the Illinois High School Clay Target League consisting of boys and girls ranging from 8th to 12th grades. They shot weekly at Downers Grove Sportsmen’s Club in Morris, IL and competed against 13 teams statewide.
Trapshooting is the fastest growing and safest sport in the nation. States and teams are often doubling in size year over year and there’s never been a recorded injury to an athlete or spectator. Coach Jed Davis said, Families quickly fall in love with the sport. The environment is geared to them with lots of interaction between athletes and parents. The social aspect to trapshooting is unmatched. As evidence, just visit the clubhouse on any given Friday night. It’s truly a family sport.
Parkview’s team finished 5th in their conference and 12 athletes participated in the state tournament held at Brittany Shooting Park in Bunker Hill, IL. 8th graders Eva Davis and Amelia Hollembeak received 1st and 3rd place medals at this tournament. Coach Davis said, I couldn’t be more proud. Just a few months ago, none of our athletes had shot trap before and some had never even shot a shotgun before. They caught on fast and did great!
The team would like to thank Downers Grove Sportsmen’s Club, Hollembeak Construction, and the NRA Foundation for their generous sponsorship and support. They helped with supplying facilities, guns, shells, and uniforms.
The team is anxious for next season and will include boys and girls from 6th to 12th grades. Please know, if you don’t attend Parkview, you can still be on the team. For more information, please contact Coach Davis at (815) 378-9413 or visit here.
