All Ye Little Children

All Ye Little Children

In the 3’s preschool class, students have been excitedly learning, growing, and deepening their understanding and knowledge about God. A part of our morning is spent at the carpet during Bible time. We start out by saying pledges (to the American flag, Christian flag, and the Bible), and then we praise God with singing! The kids just love to lift up their voices to the Lord. Bible is probably one of the first words they learned how to spell (through song)! After each song, they applaud with such enthusiasm. Next, we learn about a Bible truth by looking at pictures, reading from the Bible, and even acting out stories. Each day we practice memorizing the weekly Bible verse. Students love to recite it using motions and silly voices. After, we pray to close our Bible time and also in preparation for snack. The preschoolers are truly hiding God’s Word in their heart through pledges, music, devotions, and prayer. It truly warms my heart to hear them singing throughout the day on their own. It gives me goosebumps! They are learning about what it means to praise Him. Psalm 100. Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
 come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
 It is he who made us, and we are his;
 we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving
 and his courts with praise;
 give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
 his faithfulness continues through all generations. By Preschool Teacher, Krista...

New Beginnings

Last October, it became very clear that God was preparing my family for a change in ministry. As this became more evident over time, the knee jerk reaction was to apply to as many places as possible and take the first opportunity that awaited. Thankfully, there were many people God placed in my life that encourage patience, prayer, and a daily seeking of God’s face. As time went on, it became very clear that God was opening the door for a new ministry at Parkview, and in early April, it became official. Please understand, I loved the place of ministry, the people, the staff, the students, and the community; but as God opened particular doors and called me to a new place, obedience was necessary. For background, my wife and I were not unfamiliar to moving. We have lived in three states, moved across the country three times, etc. This move was particularly difficult because of the investment in the lives of the community. To stand in front of a fantastic school staff and tell them that we were leaving, and say goodbye to the people that lived life with us so intimately was hard, but to obey God was far more of a priority than our fear and comfort. On August 1st, I hit the ground running at Parkview, and it has been a complete sprint since. Thankfully, God and His sovereignty have been my comfort and strength. To solely depend on His total strength and power was not comfortable, but it was necessary. As time went on, and meetings began, the realization of something simple, yet profound, became apparent. This wasn’t just my New Beginnings. I had to pull myself out of the equation and insert God. It was His new beginnings for Parkview. The teachers, staff, students, parents, and community were getting a new beginning. As this became evident, God placed a set of scriptures in my heart: Lamentations 3:22-23 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. What truths are found here as we dwell on God’s steadfast and unwavering love for us. It never stops, comes up short, or runs out. It renews daily! It was this passage that really brought a proper perspective to the change in our family. Change had nothing to do with me or my family. It was God’s design and desire for the ministry I was involved with to change. He brought me to Parkview specifically to show us His sovereignty, His Power, His Glory. My new responsibility is obedience through reflection of Christ in all aspects of my work at Parkview. God has truly blessed my family through the kind reception at Parkview, and I praise God continually for this opportunity to serve Him and look forward to serving in my new capacity. In Christ, Craig...

Meet Coach Creek

~ Written By: Erinn Borg, Senior ~ On Thursday, September 28, 2017, I conducted a short interview with the 5th to 6th grade girls’ volleyball coach, Mrs. Creek. She let me in on a bit about her own background with the game, what she loves most about volleyball, and what she loves most about her team in particular. Mrs. Creek played volleyball competitively from 5th grade through all four of her college years at Judson. It was this that got her into coaching the game, I’m super competitive and I missed just being around the game; I just love the game in general. She has now been coaching for Parkview’s volleyball team for three years. As a coach, Mrs. Creek said that her proudest moment is when she gets to watch one of her players do something that they didn’t think they could, and watch their faces light up when they realize that they have succeeded at what they thought was impossible for themselves. I asked Mrs. Creek what she loved most about this team and her response was, I love how encouraging they are; I really stressed that to them last year and they’re just great at it. On multiple occasions I’ve had people from the other schools come up to me and tell me how awesome the girls were at encouraging one another. That’s better than winning to me, and I love winning. Though the team doesn’t have a verse of the year, they do have a devotional before all of their practices. I asked Mrs. Creek what her favorite one of the year was and she recalled the verse from the first practice of the year, Colossians 3:23: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Mrs. Creek says that the biggest thing that she stresses to her girls is that the most important thing is to point to God, through everything that you do. They have had a few games at public schools and she has tried to emphasize the importance of showing the light of God through the way we act in all situations, especially among those who have no exposure to Christ. Mrs. Creek is very excited with how her team is doing this season and is looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes as well as spending more time with her...

Teacher Ponders Harvest

Teacher Ponders Harvest

I love fall! To me, it is the most beautiful season of all. I love seeing the colorful arrangements of mums, pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks, and straw bales put out to celebrate the season and the harvest. As the leaves splendidly change colors, I get excited at the prospect of cooler temperatures, football games, apple cider, pumpkin doughnuts, and family gatherings! I’m sure to many, autumn represents work, long hours harvesting the crops that were planted in the spring. I remember many days of my childhood in the late summer and early fall spent helping harvest the produce of our garden and helping preserve them. Each year as I drive by the fields of drying beans or corn, I can’t help but think of God’s faithfulness. It never ceases to amaze me that year after year, He provides just what those plants need to grow and produce. And I reflect on God’s faithfulness to me. I offer a prayer of thanksgiving and praise to God. Often, I’ll sing one of my favorite hymns, Great Is Thy Faithfulness. The second verse of that song speaks about God’s faithfulness as the Creator. He created everything and continues to sustain it. Colossians 1:17 says, And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. The first verse of that hymn describes the faithfulness of God’s character. He is the same always. He never changes! His mercies to us never change! Isaiah said it like this in chapter 25, verse 1, O Lord, you are my God. I will exalt you, I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things; your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. In Numbers 23:19 Moses states, God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? Jeremiah declares in Lamentations 3:22-23, Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed for his mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. God has never failed me. Beginning with providing the way to reconciliation with Him and continuing each day of my life. He is faithful, providing what I need, just when I need it. He may not always provide in the way I think He should; but, I can say in all honesty that I have never wanted for anything that I needed. Just as the hymnist proclaims in the third verse, God provides the way of salvation, He provides guidance and strength for our daily life, and He provides an incredible hope for eternity. During the times of trial or waiting on God for something, it is easy to begin to doubt Him and His faithfulness. I think that it becomes then about our focus – are we keeping our eyes on Him and His purposes or are we focusing on ourselves and our plans? Remember Peter, when he was walking on the water – everything was fine as he kept his eyes or focus on Jesus. It was only when he began to look at or focus on the wind and waves (his problems) that he began to sink. And yet, when he called out, Lord, save me. Jesus was there immediately, pulling him up and walking back to...

Trap Shooting Recap

Parkview Christian Academy’s trapshooting team recently completed their inaugural season. 19 athletes competed in the Illinois High School Clay Target League consisting of boys and girls ranging from 8th to 12th grades. They shot weekly at Downers Grove Sportsmen’s Club in Morris, IL and competed against 13 teams statewide. Trapshooting is the fastest growing and safest sport in the nation. States and teams are often doubling in size year over year and there’s never been a recorded injury to an athlete or spectator. Coach Jed Davis said, Families quickly fall in love with the sport. The environment is geared to them with lots of interaction between athletes and parents. The social aspect to trapshooting is unmatched. As evidence, just visit the clubhouse on any given Friday night. It’s truly a family sport. Parkview’s team finished 5th in their conference and 12 athletes participated in the state tournament held at Brittany Shooting Park in Bunker Hill, IL. 8th graders Eva Davis and Amelia Hollembeak received 1st and 3rd place medals at this tournament. Coach Davis said, I couldn’t be more proud. Just a few months ago, none of our athletes had shot trap before and some had never even shot a shotgun before. They caught on fast and did great! The team would like to thank Downers Grove Sportsmen’s Club, Hollembeak Construction, and the NRA Foundation for their generous sponsorship and support. They helped with supplying facilities, guns, shells, and uniforms. The team is anxious for next season and will include boys and girls from 6th to 12th grades. Please know, if you don’t attend Parkview, you can still be on the team. For more information, please contact Coach Davis at (815) 378-9413 or visit here. Future posts by email?
