Officially Accredited

The National Commission for Accreditation met on Monday, July 21st and affirmed the unanimous recommendation of the site visit team to accredit Parkview Christian Academy! Parkview is officially accredited by Christian Schools International (CSI) until the 2018 / 2019 school year at which time we’ll host another site visit. In addition, we’ll submit a School Improvement Plan and provide documentation demonstrating growth toward the associated goals every year. The leadership of Parkview is beyond excited about this news and what it means for our future. It’s a HUGE step forward in our continued development as a school. Perhaps you’re wondering why we pursued this accreditation. Well, here are the highlights straight from CSI’s website. Christian Schools International accreditation verifies that your Christian school is true to its mission and vision of nurturing God’s children and young people. Christian Schools International accreditation has imbedded within it the transformational Christian worldview that is the signature of Christian Schools International and its member schools. Christian Schools International’s accreditation programs enable your school community to conduct a thorough self assessment of your Christian school and develop a school improvement plan, guiding your school on the path of doing even better for God’s children and young people. Christian Schools International accreditation provides your parents, students, staff, and governing body with an assurance that your school holds itself to high academic standards integrated with excellence and centered in Christ. Meet the Reillys

Meet the Reillys

Say hi to Aaron and Sue Reilly. They have a son in preschool and a daughter in 3rd grade at Parkview Christian Academy. We recently sat down with them and asked about their experiences at Parkview. The resulting dialogue is below. Thanks Aaron and Sue, we greatly appreciate your family and all you do for Parkview. How long have you lived in the area? We both grew up in the country in central Illinois and met at the University of Illinois. We first lived in Aurora for 6 years when we got married and moved to Bristol in 2007. What drew your family to Parkview? Full day kindergarten was the reason we started at Parkview 4 years ago. Since I’m a working mom, I was researching daycare options to compliment half day kindergarten in the Yorkville school system. I wasn’t finding anything where I felt 100% confident in sending my daughter and a friend told me about Parkview. So, we enrolled our daughter and that’s when I say ‘we fell in love with the school’. What keeps your family at Parkview? Our intention was to send our daughter to full day kindergarten and then transition to the public school system. About 2 weeks into kindergarten at Parkview, we fell in love with the character of the school, the history of the building, the loving / caring nature of each teacher, the amazing atmosphere nurtured at Parkview — that a 5th grader interacts / encourages and cares about a kindergartner and vice versa. From the janitor, secretaries, and teachers to Ms. Benson, you can feel the love, respect, and caring attitude from each individual. What’s a memorable moment for your family tied to Parkview? We love all the special activities: History Fair, Science Fair — those were always our favorites — to see all the students from various classes interact with the younger children and seeing our younger child being able to participate in a school event that included all the grade levels. If you could summarize Parkview in three words, what would they be? God-honoring, encouraging, and sound-education. What would you say to someone on the fence about Christian education? You must first decide as a family what is best for your family and your children. Each child has been created differently with different needs. I would encourage any child / family considering Christian education to observe a classroom for a day — I think you will see the difference. Education from a Christian perspective is quite different than a worldly perspective and there’s no amount of money that can take the place of a solid Christian foundation to grow your children to be world leaders. What do your kids love about Parkview? 3rd grade daughter: Math and Mrs. Dudding! 4 year old son preschooler: My friends and when Mrs. Johnson gives me big hugs! As a side note, Sue is a professional photographer and owner of A Focused Lens. She often has a camera around her neck. If you’re looking for a photographer, please visit her Facebook Page. She’s the best! Future posts by email? Please enter your address and hit subscribe. Parkview is the premier Christian School, Pre-K through 12th Grade, serving Kendall County and beyond. Meet Mr. Johnson

Meet Mr. Johnson

Mr. Johnson teaches 7th to 12th Grade at Parkview Christian Academy. Students love him and Parkview is beyond thankful for his dedication and passion. Let’s get to know him a bit together. How long have you lived in the area? I have lived in the western suburbs of Chicago my entire life. I grew up in Aurora and currently live in Oswego. Why did you become a teacher? My calling as a teacher was in stages. At ACS, I heard a chapel message about becoming a teacher when I was a sophomore. That desire to be a teacher started in that chapel. The desire grew feet when I worked for Wayside Cross Rescue Mission at Brady Elementary School. What do you love about teaching at Parkview? Parkview has always been a great vehicle for teaching ‘Christianly’. Any place that allows for the Word to be communicated in an integrated way is a great place. I also have made many friends here. This community is a blessing to work in. What’s your favorite subject and why? My all time favorite subject is church history. The reason is twofold. First, we get to see where we came from. Sometimes in American evangelicalism we forget that there is a great cloud of witnesses who knew God before we did. They offer so much to us today. That leads to the second reason which is the depth of trust and commitment to holiness in the face of the Living God that our forefathers had. It is truly humbling to read them. What’s an impactful moment a teacher had on your life? There were two teachers that were especially impactful to me and I owe them much. I encountered Mr. Robert Sampson while attending Aurora Christian High School and Dr. Mark Eckel while attending Moody Bible Institute. They taught me that all truth is God’s truth and He deserves to be Lord of all. That idea has been life transforming. What’s an interesting fact or two about you? I love the outdoors, especially camping or fishing with my family. Where do you attend church? My wife and I attend Wheaton Bible Church. Future posts by email? Created, Kindergarten, & Snowmen

Created, Kindergarten, & Snowmen

From the desk of Mrs. Harbeck, one of Parkview’s Kindergarten Teachers. With all of the snow we have, students were inspired to work on their snowman glyphs. Our kindergarten class “built” snowmen based on their answers to questions. For example, if the students like snow, they used three circles for the body. If they like to make snowballs, the carrot nosed points to the right. This was a challenging project because there were a lot of steps and students needed to listen and follow directions. After the snowmen were complete, students wrote and described how their snowman looked. While we were working on this project, we had a class discussion on how we had to put thought into how to make our snowmen. Then, we talked about how each of us is special and uniquely made. Psalm 139:13-16 says, For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Future posts by email? Meet Mrs. Christensen

Meet Mrs. Christensen

How long have you lived in the area? I have lived in Yorkville since I was a baby. The last four years I left for Chicago to go to Moody Bible Institute, and now I live in Sandwich. Why did you become a teacher? I first recall wanting to become a teacher when I was in first grade. It’s all I’ve ever really wanted to be. I can remember sitting in my miniature chair dreaming about how I would run my classroom if I was a teacher. What do you love about teaching at Parkview? I love the fact that I can bring God and His Word into everything that I do and teach. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, or whenever I can sense the kids are overwhelmed, we stop and pray. What a gift it is that we can do this! As a new teacher, I am so thankful for all of the love and support I have been given by my fellow teachers and staff members. They have made me feel like I can be who I am without having to cover up my weaknesses. What’s your favorite subject and why? I am really enjoying teaching math. Learning the complexity and perfection of our number system reminds me of how Great and Detailed our God is. I also love those beautiful, though sometimes rare, “a-ha” moments–the tiny reminders that I am producing fruit for the Lord. What’s an impactful moment a teacher had on your life? While it’s not really a moment, the greatest memory that I have that has impacted me today is the atmosphere that my third grade teacher created for the class. Her classroom always felt like a safe place, and as students, we truly believed we were a family in her class. My desire is to create such a place for my own students. What’s an interesting fact or two about you? Perhaps a favorite book, hobby, or show? I love to play and watch sports, and I am a White Sox fan. Where do you attend church? I attend Village Bible Church in Sugar Grove. Future posts by email? Please enter your address and hit subscribe.
