Meet Mrs. Christensen

Meet Mrs. Christensen

How long have you lived in the area? I have lived in Yorkville since I was a baby. The last four years I left for Chicago to go to Moody Bible Institute, and now I live in Sandwich. Why did you become a teacher? I first recall wanting to become a teacher when I was in first grade. It’s all I’ve ever really wanted to be. I can remember sitting in my miniature chair dreaming about how I would run my classroom if I was a teacher. What do you love about teaching at Parkview? I love the fact that I can bring God and His Word into everything that I do and teach. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, or whenever I can sense the kids are overwhelmed, we stop and pray. What a gift it is that we can do this! As a new teacher, I am so thankful for all of the love and support I have been given by my fellow teachers and staff members. They have made me feel like I can be who I am without having to cover up my weaknesses. What’s your favorite subject and why? I am really enjoying teaching math. Learning the complexity and perfection of our number system reminds me of how Great and Detailed our God is. I also love those beautiful, though sometimes rare, “a-ha” moments–the tiny reminders that I am producing fruit for the Lord. What’s an impactful moment a teacher had on your life? While it’s not really a moment, the greatest memory that I have that has impacted me today is the atmosphere that my third grade teacher created for the class. Her classroom always felt like a safe place, and as students, we truly believed we were a family in her class. My desire is to create such a place for my own students. What’s an interesting fact or two about you? Perhaps a favorite book, hobby, or show? I love to play and watch sports, and I am a White Sox fan. Where do you attend church? I attend Village Bible Church in Sugar Grove. Future posts by email? Please enter your address and hit subscribe. Parkview’s High School Visits Ground Zero

Parkview’s High School Visits Ground Zero

Recently, a group of students led by Tim Hagan and Mike Linden visited Washington, IL. They helped with the cleanup after an EF4 tornado devastated this community about two weeks ago. The group joined with others to total 110 people who met at Bayview Baptist Church where they received instructions on their duties for the day. They eventually ended up clearing debris from a local golf course. The day was extremely cold and windy, but the workers were able to warm up with hot chocolate / coffee and warm food provided by the Red Cross. The owner of the golf course thanked the workers at the end of the day with tears in his eyes. Although the boys enjoyed driving golf carts to assist in the clean up, they agreed it was sad seeing the total devastation to homes. Finding parts of computers, Xboxes, window frames, tile flooring, battered cars, etc. quickly tied this day back to the people affected. The PCA group serving in Washington, IL consisted of freshmen Jared Hagan, Jack Swenson, and Austin West along with junior Jarred Still and senior Aaron West. John Pilmer, assistant varsity basketball coach, also joined the group. They considered it a privilege to be hands serving God’s glory (from Parkview’s Vision Statement) in a very practical way. Participating in School Choice for Illinois

The Illinois Coalition of Nonpublic Schools will be participating in School Choice Illinois to study the School Choice Indiana voucher program that provides money to thousands of Indiana families to pay for nonpublic education without state or federal intervention. Through the Chicagoland Christian Administrator’s Group, Parkview Christian Academy has representation in School Choice Illinois. The Chicagoland Christian Administrator’s Group is currently chaired by Parkview Christian Academy’s Superintendent, Deborah Benson. This group engages Dr. Gary Smit to represent Christian Schools on the Illinois Coalition of Nonpublic Schools. Dr. Smit is also participating in School Choice Illinois. Please pray for legislators as they prepare to consider vouchers for Illinois residents. Pray also that any legislation considered will remain free of laws or regulations requiring state intervention. Future posts by email? Please enter your address and hit subscribe. A Glimpse Inside Kindergarten

A Glimpse Inside Kindergarten

Here’s a glimpse inside the Kindergarten Class of Mrs. Harbeck. Sure sounds like fun, thanks Mrs. Harbeck for sharing with us all! Did you know Parkview offers multiple classes of all day Kindergarten in Yorkville? For more information, please note the link at the end of this post. Pumpkins, pumpkins…EVERYWHERE! This past week, Mrs. Harbeck’s Kindergarten Class has looked like a pumpkin patch. We completed many fun pumpkin activities and read the book, Pumpkin Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington. It’s a story about a boy named Jamie who plants pumpkin seeds in the spring. Along with Jamie, we learned the stages of the pumpkin cycle as we watched his pumpkin seeds grow. After numerous discussions revolving around the life cycle of pumpkins, I began to wonder if we, as Christians, have our own “spiritual life cycle”?! Thankfully when we have a heart that yearns to be close to God, we go through many stages of growth and maturity. Praise the LORD! 2 Peter 3:18. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. In math this week, Mrs. Harbeck’s Kindergarten Class has been learning about addition! We have been using a lot of hands on activities to help us understand this concept. With all of the counting and adding going on in the classroom, the song Count Your Blessings came to mind. It’s a wonderful song to reflect upon. Numbers aren’t the only things we should be counting! Count Your Blessings When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed, When you are discouraged thinking all is lost, Count your many blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done. Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly, And you will be singing as the days go by. So, amid the conflicts, whether great or small, Do not be discouraged, God is over all, Count your many blessings, angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end. Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God hath done, Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your many blessings, see what God hath done. Parkview’s Jr. & Sr. High Gives Back

Parkview’s Jr. & Sr. High Gives Back

A couple weeks ago, the 7th through 12th graders of Parkview Christian Academy helped our local community. They created a prayer garden for Caring Hands Thrift Store, a mission of Cross Lutheran Church and School, in Yorkville. Education is more than classrooms and textbooks. Giving back to others teaches our students stewardship and team work. A proven method is literally getting our hands dirty in the work of the Gospel. Parkview Staff Member. Here are some pics from the day. Two high school students, great job girls! Digging and raking away. High school teacher, Mr. Johnson, keeping everyone in line. More digging and raking. The finished product. Future posts by email? Please enter your address and hit subscribe. Parkview is the premier Christian School, Pre-K through 12th Grade, serving Kendall County and beyond.
