Meet Mrs. Walz

How long have you lived in the area?

I have lived in Yorkville for 2 years, and previous to that I lived in Oswego, Dekalb, and grew up in North Aurora.

Why did you become a teacher?

I didn’t! My mom is a teacher, and I did not want to follow in her footsteps because I wanted to choose a new career path for myself instead of something I had grown up around my whole life. After changing my major a few times in college, I could no longer deny my passion for teaching, and love for working with students, so I worked towards my degree in education and I have never been happier. I am thankful that my mom is a wonderful influence and resource for my teaching career.

What do you love about teaching at Parkview?

Parkview allows me to be 100% me! I am free to speak about my faith alongside the subject matter. With Christianity being such a large part of my life, I enjoy not having to hide it or put it aside while at work, like other places of employment may require.

What is an amazing life changing moment (of a student) from your teaching career?

I accepted a position as a one to one paraprofessional when I first moved to Yorkville. On my first day I was completely overwhelmed to learn about the student’s extensive needs and how much work would be required of me outside of the school day. I had had positions similar to this before, but this job in particular seemed to be more than what I had ever imagined.   Initially I wanted to quit, but the moment I met the student, everything changed. I felt God was telling me that I was selected specially for that job because of my skill set and the kind of teacher I am. I had been praying previous to getting that job about patience and trust in God’s plan, and I just knew in that moment, everything was right on track, and I was exactly where I needed to be.

What’s your favorite subject and why?

Language Arts is my favorite subject. I have been a writer ever since I can remember, and my love for expressing myself through my writing has only grown through the years.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love cooking (and eating)! Spending time with my family is important to me. I also craft, workout, read, write, and hang out with friends.

What is your favorite sports team?

The Cleveland Browns! Only because I like the color brown, and it’s become sort of a joke around my house. I really don’t follow sports.

What is your favorite restaurant?

Sweet Tomatoes – I can make a perfect salad and overload on carbs and desserts all in one place.

Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts?

Dunkin’ Donuts.
